{ Many years ago… }
“Pfffff… 😤 I can’t believe this!” - thought.
I dropped my backpack to the laminated floor and crashed down into my black office chair.
Then I just slipped down into a half sitting, half lying position.
But that spine-killer posture was the least of my concern at that moment.
My eyelids felt so heavy that I could NO longer keep them open.
I was exhausted. 😵
But I knew there was NO chance I’d be able to fall asleep yet.
The anxious and frustrating thoughts in my mind were driving me crazy.
That brain of mine was flashing in and mixing partial memories of the previous few months.
I still couldn’t believe what had been happening. 😢
{ A few months before that… }
My then business mentor told us to consistently prospect to grow… do cold calling and networking.
All my life, I hated receiving cold calls. (Who doesn’t? Right?)
Not to mention, even just thinking about calling strangers made my hands shake, and it filled up my stomach with butterflies.
But somehow I still got myself to do cold calling. Kind of… 🙄
Throughout the first dozen calls, I kept feeling the ANNOYANCE in the tone and words of people.
I felt like it was a BAD way to start any business relationships.
And with that, my short cold calling “career” had ended.
Then, I took my then-mentor’s other lead generation advice: networking.
Although I was an introvert (and still am), I got myself ALL into that.
But I could NOT have ever imagined what was going to happen… 😯
…which eventually led me to that crashed state you read about above.
With a mixed excitement and fear, almost every day, I was networking.
Business events, entrepreneur gatherings, speed networkings, workshops, networking breakfasts…
…you name it. I was there...
…with the goal of getting leads for my website building business, and starting relationships with them that could evolve further over time.
I proudly 😎 left every event with a new stack of business cards in my pocket. And with some seemingly promising leads on my list.
When I wasn’t networking, I kept following up with leads via emails and calls.
Which got me appointments and sales calls with seemingly promising leads.
It was exciting…
At first…
Until…
On the calls, almost every person said something like…
But with every call, I was one step closer to the unavoidable truth that every entrepreneur should know…
💡 Then came the “great” idea…
Instead of wasting so much time on traveling to networking events, I started networking virtually on LinkedIn, in half of my time.
While it led me to sales calls with potential clients… most of the time, they said the SAME things…
“I’m not ready yet.”, “We don’t have the budget for it now.”, “I’ll think about it.”, etc.
I felt like I was chasing tails (and leads). 🙁
A LOT of work and time went in (weeks, months), but the results were too LITTLE. Much LESS than I wanted. 😣
The clients who said ‘yes’, were the type that I did NOT like working with.
But, I still had to take them on board 😕 just to be able to pay the bills.
The day when I crashed down into my chair exhausted… and filled with anxiety and frustrations…
…I felt completely stuck. Like there was NO end to the “running after the leads nightmare”. 😖
BUT what was coming next has changed everything…

That speaker was Russell Brunson.
(Today, he’s one of the top marketers in the world.)
His presentation was so impressive that from an unknown person he became my no. 1 marketing and sales mentor in just 65 minutes.
In the following year, I “devoured” most of his books and online courses.
